Photoshop CS6 improvements

A great write-up of what’s new & improved in the Photoshop CS6 beta. I think I might finally upgrade from CS4.

I’m giving Total Finder a test run. It’s a Mac OS X Snow Leopard Finder extension that attempts to fix most of the Finder’s shortcomings by adding features like tabs and a split window view so you don’t need to have lots of Finder windows open at once. I’ll check-in later after I have a chance to play with it and post my impressions.
Here’s a good write-up on iconpaper.org Finder: Fix or Replace.

Optimized Handbrake Presets to Encode Video for iPad & iPhone 4

Great for re-encoding your favorite HD Apple movie trailers for your iPhone 4’s Retina Display. I’ve put all the Tron Legacy trailers on my iPhone 4.

Adobe CS5 is junk. In addition to not really adding much more than extra fluff, CS5 adds more bugs and flakiness on the level of beta quality software. It really just feels like I should be beta testing it and submitting bug reports.
What pushed me over the edge is that the Undo command is somehow broken in Photoshop no matter how many times I delete the prefs…
I’ll keep my $500 (CS4 to CS5 upgrade price) and hope that Apple or another great software developer comes-out with some competition for Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Downloaded the trial version of Adobe CS5… Time to see if they made Photoshop and Illustrator less crappy, or just added more bloat. Worth the upgrade price?

Autodesk SketchBook Mobile for iPhone

This is the first large company I’ve seen release an art tool on the iPhone. Not sure how it stacks-up against Brushes or Layers, but I’ll be giving the free version a try (iTunes Link). The only thing it seems to lack is a large format export.

Update:

First impressions. I really don’t like the interface… It’s a challenge even to figure-out how to change the brush size… As far as I can tell there’s no brush size preview either. It uses double-tap hot corners for clear layer, fit to screen, undo, and redo that seem less than intuitive. The tools do seem smooth and responsive if you can get past the interface. It has potential if they keep updating it.

Don’t forget to checkout my new art critique blog Untitled Image.

CoverSutra 2.2 Beta 5 fixes Snow Leopard Issues

I wasn’t aware of this beta version until I started noticing that CoverSutra was displaying the wrong track names and checked into it on the developer’s blog.
