Updated: Fix for iTunes AppStore Update Errors (page is outdated & error 5002)
I’ve discovered the iTunes iOS App update error (The information on this page is outdated.) can be caused by never quitting iTunes.
The new fix: Try quitting iTunes every once in a while. I’ve found I still get this error if I leave iTunes open and sleep my MacBook Pro overnight. Simply relaunching iTunes when you first wake your Mac might fix this error.
(Mac Tip) Automatically add lyrics to iTunes tracks
I had used this method before but with a different lyrics fetching app. This is great for iPhone/iPod owners because you can easily see song lyrics by taping the currently playing track album cover.

Fix for iTunes AppStore Update Errors (page is outdated & error 5002)

Yay! I managed to fix the iTunes 9.2.x AppStore update error I was getting every time I wanted to download iPhone app updates. I did a little research and found it’s some kind of file permissions error. It can be fixed by changing the permissions of the Mobile Applications folder and it’s contents, but to be sure I’d suggest the method below.
The Fix:
- Backup your ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications/ folder. (Spotlight search for the folder name if you can’t find it) Make a copy of the folder, (don’t move the folder) on your desktop.
- Delete ALL of your Apps in iTunes.
- Drop all the backed-up Apps back into the iTunes app screen, iTunes will copy them back in. Once finished close iTunes.
- For good measure download BatChmod. Drop your ‘Mobile Applications’ folder on BatchMod and match these settings (Owner should be your username):
- You are done, and Apps should now update without error messages. You can safely delete the backup on your desktop.

UPDATE:
The same error can also be caused by outdated billing info. If the problem persists try re-entering all your billing info for your iTunes account.
UPDATE 2:
Try quitting iTunes every once in a while. I’ve found I still get this error if I leave iTunes open and sleep my MacBook Pro overnight. Simply relaunching iTunes when you first wake your Mac might fix this error.
Keeping two iTunes libraries in sync with Automator
Using this guide I found, I setup an automator script last night to sync my iTunes to my new gaming PC over my network. It’s a one way sync, but that works fine since my Mac is the my main machine. It would also work great with two Macs.
UPDATE: This script started deleting music on my main machine so I dropped it… I’d suggest just using the new iTunes 9 Home Sharing to pull new music between computers.
Cool MP3 music store: Lala
[Via Cult of Mac] What sets Lala apart from say iTunes or Amazon MP3 is that you can actually preview full songs in the browser before buying. This site may change the way I buy music from now on.
Buy new music starting at 10 cents
Listen to songs in full before you buy. Get unlimited plays of a song on the web for 10 cents, or the MP3 download for 79 cents more. All the MP3s are DRM-free, compatible with iTunes and Windows Media Player.
Updating the Tumblr iPhone App

I just realized that I wasn’t getting any updates for the Tumblr app Tumblrette that I had bought back before Tumblr bought it to make it the free official Tumblr iPhone app. Now I know why!
Now that it’s under new owners it has been renamed to just “Tumblr” and also managed by the Tumblr company rather than the original developer. Because of this change updates are no-longer pushed out to owners of Tumblrette. To get the latest and greatest you must go download Tumblr from the App Store.
I hope this helps other owners of Tumblrette who might be wondering about updates.
iTunes Plus upgrade now available on a per track basis
Finally! Now you don’t have to pay to upgrade that EMO music you were into 4 years ago but now find annoying. Apple has given-in to demand, likely because people weren’t going to pay $50+ depending on how much music they had bought on iTunes in the past.

iTunes keeps adding DRM free music. Yesterday it was $55.47 to upgrade 215 (available) songs I bought on iTunes and I’m sure there will be more added. Thankfully I stopped buying DRM music quite a while ago.
iTunes Music Store Now DRM Free

It’s about time! This marks the end of DRM music. You can “upgrade” your old iTunes downloads to DRM free high quality tracks for $0.30 a track… With the currently available DRM free tracks; for me it’s $55.47 to upgrade 215 songs.
Rumor: Apple's iTunes going DRM-free starting Today?
Sadly CNet News now says that it’s unlikely DRM-free tracks from the three remaining labels will turn up on iTunes before the end of the year… Sad, I guess we’ll see soon.
Smashing Pumpkins G.L.O.W. Single on iTunes exclusively
However the tracks are DRM protected low 128 kbps quality, and that makes me sad… I wouldn’t mind the DRM so much if they were 256 kbps. Right now the only other place to get the single is on Guitar Hero.
It’s only $1.49 so I’ll deal with it for now.
