avert fate - free Mac/PC FPS game
The game I posted about earlier was built on the cross-platform Unity engine and it reminded me of seeing this game a while ago, demoed on (I think) the 1up Show maybe a year ago. Apparently it was built to showcase the Unity engine.

Top 5 Free Cross-Platform FPS Games

Being a Mac user, cross platform games are something I keep an eye open for. These all look well worth playing. I’ve also made a discussion on Untitled Image where I also point-out a few other games that weren’t on the list.

First album recorded with the Korg DS-10 (MP3 download)

Not bad sounding stuff. It’s all done on just the Korg DS-10 for Nintendo DS. I’ve pre-ordered my American copy on Amazon today. [Via Kotaku]

How to Run Windows on Your Mac for Free (not Bootcamp)

Looks interesting. There’s no mention of 3D graphics support or performance, but it’s free and might be worth a look. I’d jump all over this if it supported some games and things like streaming Netflix.

UPDATE: Apparently there’s little to no 3D support… (I had to look at the comments about the Linux version.)

Free Mac Synthesizer: Automat

The Nintendo DS Synthesizer I posted about yesterday got me looking for Mac programs. I found one free one; it’s not too user friendly to install since it’s got almost no instructions, but I figured it out…

Once downloaded, you start by running the “Install.command” file by double clicking it. Then you put the “Automat1.component” file into /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/and you are done.

To use it you need one of the following programs: Logic GarageBand Live Numerology RAX Bidule Metro and some sort of MIDI input. I have Garageband; you’ll find Automat1 under the “Instrument Generator” section. You have to use the MIDI input to make some notes before you can synthesize them. There’s a steep learning curve to the synthesizer itself, but it looks fun.
