Art Blog: Untitled Image
Ask me something, I'll answer it here on the blog.
Hello. I'm Nathaniel Daught, (25) a graphic designer, Mac geek, and gamer. These are my ramblings, photos, links, and art because I sometimes have too much time on my hands... One would assume that you also have too much time on your hands because you are reading this blog. Enjoy.

Google Chrome BETA: Now available for Mac

Chrome has just been available as a feature limited (and not always stable) developer preview for Mac until today. Google has just released the public beta (finished enough to actually use) version of Chrome for Mac.

Captain Forever now open to the public
The addictive Flash game I posted about a while ago (as a 1 time pay to play beta) is now open for everyone to enjoy for free. So if you’ve got a few spare moments today give it a try, I bet you’ll end-up playing longer than you first intended.
A new version of the game was also launched for paid supporters called Captain Successor. It features new ship parts and slightly tweaked/updated graphics, a nice update to the original game.

ELIMINATE: ngmoco's free iPhone FPS game
The game is now out for download on iTunes. It’s the latest hotness right now. The game itself is free, but you can buy (with real money) additional “power cells” that allow you to play in ranked online games that earn you in-game credits for buying upgrades. Players have a limited number of free power cells each day, so once expended players can only play offline practice games (unless they buy more power cells). It’s an interesting implementation of in-game “micro transactions”. I’d just be concerned that players who spend a lot of money in-game will gain a large unfair advantage over players who chose not to invest as much (or any) money in the game.
The game itself runs great on my iPhone 3GS. The graphics are simple yet impressive for iPhone, similar to Quake Live. The controls are the only sticky part. The game controls by on-screen touch directional sticks that provide no tactile feedback, so it’s hard to tell if your fingers are in the right place during the heat of combat. During the quick practice match I tried (and won), I found it hard to have precise control over either aim or movement. It may become easier with practice.
Check it out. It’s free.
My name is NetworkShadow on the online component Plus+ add me if you want to try playing online.

New Smashing Pumpkins 44 song album announced
Recording began yesterday, September 15th, 2009 on the new record which will be entitled ‘Teargarden by Kaleidyscope’. The album will feature 44 songs, 4 of which are now being recorded. My desire is to release a song at a time beginning around Halloween of this year, with each new release coming shortly after until all 44 are out. Each song will be made available absolutely for free, to anyone anywhere. There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won’t have to sign up for anything, give an email address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.

Free EventBox from MacHeist
Scroll down the page and you’ll see the download link.
I’ve been using EventBox for months now, and it’s a great app for anyone with multiple social network profiles who would like to see them all in one place. I use EventBox mainly for Twitter and GoogleReader.
It’s still in beta, so you might notice it’s a little rough around the corners if you really use it like I do; as your main RSS reader and Twitter client with hundreds of new “events” a day. It’s in active development so it gets more polished with every update.

(Free Software) Open Source Inkscape: vector program
Manipulate Vector Images with Open Source Inkscape [via lifehacker.com]
All platforms: Inkscape is an open source vector editing program. If you are looking for a free alternative to the Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape has a host of features that make it worth taking for a spin.
I haven’t tried it myself, but it looks like a great place to start. You could also use the basics of my pen tool tutorial with it, I wrote with it Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop in mind, but vector graphics generally work about the same.
