maefin replied to your post: Yay iPhone 4S pre-order shipped (finally)
dammit mine is supposed to deliver the 25th…..should’ve just waited in line!!!
I feel your pain. Wasn’t sure if I’d get it this week or in another 7 days. Pre-ordering seems to be hit or miss… This time I’m not sure pre-orders were actually “first come first serve” as they claim, and retail stores got priority instead.
Both my iPhone 4 and 3GS pre-orders were delivered on-time launch day…
Yay iPhone 4S pre-order shipped (finally)
32GB White (AT&T)

AT&T still sitting on many day 1 iPhone 4S pre-orders
I happen to be one of them… I would have pre-ordered online from Apple if it weren’t for concerns about upgrade eligibility. I got to my local AT&T store and pre-ordered around noon EST on the 7th and I’m still waiting for my iPhone 4S to ship.
Update Oct 20 8:23 AM: My order is no-longer listed as back-ordered, however still pending shipment and my card has yet to be charged.
Update Oct 20 4:18 PM: My iPhone 4S has shipped! Will be here tomorrow via FedEx. 1 week late.

This MacRumors forum thread is full of unhappy day 1 (Oct 7th) AT&T iPhone 4S pre-orderers. There doesn’t seem to be any logical reason as to why one person has gotten their phone already and another’s is still back ordered. Some people are reporting finding phones in-stock at local stores and then having to fight with AT&T to cancel their pre-order to buy the phone in-store instead… AT&T seems to be favoring store walk-in inventory over fulfilling pre-orders, essentially punishing the most loyal customers.
With this being their 5th iPhone launch you’d think AT&T would have gotten the logistics right this time.
Last Time
Besides online pre-order servers crashing June 2010 for the iPhone 4 launch, I wasn’t aware of any real issues so long as you managed to pre-order before the end of the day. I didn’t even pre-order until the end of the day in-store because I couldn’t get an online pre-order to work, and still got my iPhone 4 on time.
iPhone 4S White 32GB Pre-ordered!
Thank you for your recent order. Your iPhone will ship in approximately 14 to 21 days*. All orders are processed on a first come, first served basis.
Last year my iPhone 4 arrived in only 9 days after I pre-ordered late in the day… Hopefully I get the 4S sooner than later as I have a sale price locked-in at Gazelle.com for my old iPhone again this year until Nov 2.
I’ll be ordering a black iPhone 4S for my girlfriend come Nov 1 (due to being stingy with upgrade eligibility this time) to replace her old 3GS.

My iPhone Data Usage Chart.
April was when I started using Rdio. I found-out today that AT&T is offering unlimited data again… But I’m grandfathered-in on the old unlimited plan so it doesn’t effect me.
AT&T sent me another 32GB iPhone 4…
Apparently 2 of my “failed” attempted online pre-orders went through, but only one was caught and canceled prior to shipping. I called AT&T support and they told me to return it to an AT&T retail store to get my Visa credited back.
What surprises me is that this 2nd iPhone 4 was also billed to me at the discounted upgrade price. It does make it tempting to sell the phone at a profit instead or returning it, but I don’t know if AT&T would take kindly to that as it is associated with my account and I already received an iPhone 4 at upgrade pricing. Honesty may help me avoid issues later, even if I don’t gain anything from it upfront.
This gave me a scare. A canceled iPhone 4 order on my AT&T account under my home zip just showed-up today. I think it’s just the canceled online order that I had originally thought failed… My pre-order via the retail store is still listed as un-canceled *knock on wood*.
I am a bit annoyed though that the status is still “In Progress” while I’m hearing other people say their AT&T iPhone 4 pre-orders have already shipped… Got my fingers crossed that it ships today if it hasn’t already.
Last year when I ordered my iPhone 3GS the order status didn’t updated until the last minute and it still arrived on time, so I’ve got my fingers crossed.
AT&T - iPhone 4 Order Confirmation
I gave-up trying to pre-order online yesterday due to AT&T and Apple’s servers getting trashed by the traffic, so I just stopped at a local AT&T store at the end of the day. The guy helping me said they had over 100 pre-orders and I was 1 of maybe 3 people he had helped that actually had no issues with the pre-order process (running my credit card etc).
I got this via Email last night after pre-ordering:
Thank you for ordering iPhone 4 from AT&T. Your device has been reserved. Today was the busiest sales day in our history. Because of the incredible volume of orders we received, there is a slight chance that some customers may receive their devices between June 25 and June 28. Rest assured, we are doing all we can to ship devices to customers for delivery on the 24th. You do not need to take any action at this point.
I just hope I’m not one of the customers with the slight chance of getting my iPhone 4 late. I have to send my 32GB iPhone 3GS into gazelle.com with-in 30 days of the WWDC keynote to get the great $270 sale price I had locked-in ($299 with a promo code I had).
My AT&T iPhone data usage.
Looks like the new lower price 2GB/mo data plan would accommodate my usage. I don’t really think I’d ever really want to use tethering for an extra $20/mo. However it’d only save me $5 a month to get off my “unlimited” plan.
Verizon & AT&T data scams [nytimes.com]
My girlfriend got one of these $2 charges added to her last Verizon bill before she switched to an iPhone 3GS and AT&T. They also managed to F* up her bill in other ways too, but that’s another story.
Wish they didn’t use FedEx to send my iPhone… They’ll try to deliver it at my home long before I’m off work and I’ll have to drive all the way out to the depot to pick it up… At least UPS has a depot in town.
AT&T iPhone 3G S pre-order info video
Kinda wish I had pre-ordered at a store so I could play with it all day, but UPS will save me the trouble of getting-up early. However I do have to wait for the package to arrive… I may end-up going to a UPS depot to get the package since they always try to deliver before I’m at home after work.
