"1UP Yours" Podcast Still Alive (for at least 1 last episode)
Perhaps the only surviving 1UP podcast after the layoffs at 1UP.
Update: This may be the last 1UP Yours, but it sounds as if Garnet wants to continue some sort of podcast in the future.
The former production team behind the 1UP Show (now Area 5) brings you the premiere installment of its new series, Co-op. In this episode, formers members of the EGM and 1UP.com staff talk about their favorite games of 2008.
Well worth watching, and make sure you subscribe to their video feeds. It’s only going to get better too.

Yet another ex-1UP staff podcast.

Better sound quality and more memories of EGM and 1UP.
Player One Podcast ep 116: About 1UP UGO buyout
No game talk this week. Instead, we dedicate the whole episode to talking about EGM’s closure and the 1UP layoffs in the wake of Hearst/UGO’s purchase of 1UP.com. In addition to regular hosts Chris “CJ” Johnston (ex-EGM News Editor) and Phil Theobald (ex-EGM editor and former GameNow Reviews Editor), we welcome a couple more ex-Ziff guests to the program: Kevin Gifford (ex-1UP editor and gaming magazine expert/Magweasel), Greg Sewart (ex-EGM Previews and Reviews Editor), Greg Ford (EGM Managing Editor), and Andrew “Skip” Pfister (ex-EGMer, GMRer and 1UP.com Reviews Editor/Podcast Producer).A great behind the scenes look on 1UP and EGM. It’s also turning-out to be a good video game podcast.

1UP Video Game Podcasts “Replacements” Impressions 1

On my quest to fill the 1UP Podcasts void in my life I am listening to a bunch of podcasts I have never listened to before. So far I’ve listened to:
- Player One Podcast (iTunes link) I picked-up on an after holiday episode so it was rather bland. The hosts are ex-EGM staff so I went back to the previous episode to get a better taste. It might grow on me but I’m not overly impressed yet… I’ll give it a chance and stay subscribed for now.
- Gamers With Jobs (iTunes link) This was also an after holiday episode where they were missing someone but it was still actually enjoyable. In the episode I heard they talked a bit more about obscure PC games than I’d care to hear about. I’ll stay subscribed.
- Giant BombCast (iTunes link) It’s a bit more informal than the 1UP podcasts. If they added slightly more structure it could be great. I do like that they jump right into what they were playing after the opening silliness. I’ll be subscribing and I’m sure it’ll grow on me.
- Idle Thumbs (iTunes link) I enjoyed this one within the first 5 minutes and was fun all the way through. They actually have the best “1UP podcast” style synergy between the podcasters that makes it much more engaging. They also stay on the subject of games better than some podcasts. Less structure than 1UP podcasts, but still very good.
How to fill the huge 1UP podcast void in my heart?

Practically all of the 1UP network podcasts were my favorite podcasts I listen(ed) to, and not just in the video games category, mind you. The 1UP podcasts have been the best produced and well hosted podcasts anywhere. With the announcement of UGO’s buyout of 1UP (and EGM); my podcast subscriptions dwindle and it almost feels like I’ve lost a bunch of friends (the staff of the 1up network who lost their jobs).
Right now my only other favorite remaining video game podcast is:
Joystiq podcast (iTunes link) While the production value doesn’t meet the 1UP podcasts’ high standards; these three guys have great chemistry together and I often find myself laughing at their comments. It’s a very relaxed informal podcast with just enough structure to call it a “show”.
360 Arcadians Live! (iTunes link) Had been good at times in the past, but they haven’t had enough people hosting lately. They can be childish and vulgar at times, especially when there aren’t many hosts.
I must now seek out other video game podcasts to fill the void. Some possibly notable podcasts I will be trying and reviewing in later posts:
- Giant BombCast (iTunes link) I’ve only listened to one episode so far, and it has potential.
- Kotaku Video Podcast (iTunes link) Just subscribed, I’ll be posting a review later.
- Gamers With Jobs (iTunes link) A friend suggested this one after hearing it was good.
- Player One Podcast (iTunes link) Ex-EGM staff, so this should be good.
- Destructoid Podcast (iTunes link) Looking into it, but it’s got bad reviews… Not sure.
Please post suggestions if there are any video game podcasts you listen to that I didn’t list.

UGO Entertainment Acquires 1UP: Cans all the best staff?!

With all the best staff gone, all the wonderful podcasts (the best video game podcasts anywhere) will cease to exist… RIP 1UP FM, 1UP Yours, LAN Party, and the 1UP Show… I really do believe that the 1UP podcasts were the best things 1UP had going for them, I didn’t even visit their site until I started listening to the podcasts.
